Q Research a news report of a serial killing from either a standard national or local newspaper or broadcast station. Read or watch the report with the myths of a serial killer in mind. Then write a short paper that briefly summarizes the chosen news account of a serial killing. Using the serial killer myths presented in the module lecture and the article regarding African American serial killers, discuss whether or not the news account perpetuates any of the myths. For example, newscasters have used the term mass murderer to refer to a serial killer, ignoring the government's definitions of mass and serial murder. These are two distinctly different crimes, yet at times the media has used them interchangeably.

Murdering is a heinous crime that the society is scared of. So, serial killers are viewed as psychopaths who can go to any extent to kill. However, myths go hand in hand as there are different myths about serial killing and serial killers. These myths show that people have a pre-conceived idea and they prefer believing those ideas. Both the articles focus on techniques of murdering where a trend can be noticed (Walsh, 2005). It is seen people believe in myths and forget to understand the reality.
